Upon returning to Germany, Dr. Franz Benstetter lectured at Munich University in the department of Economics while completing his Doctorate  Degree in Economics. He subsequently became an associate professor at the University of Technology, Munich where his main  field of research was health economics. 

In 2001, he accepted a position as the Director of Provider Relations in the Health Division of Munich Re. In this position, he has been responsible for the development and organization of medical networks and managed service organizations in Europe and the Middle East. During this time he has gained extensive practical experience in network management and health care management.

In 2006 Dr. Franz Benstetter became Head of Managed Care Services at Munich Re, responsible for claims- and production management, network management and medical management. Very recently Dr. Franz Benstetter was appointed as Head of Operational Services including Managed Care Services, Underwriting Services and Data Management. He continues to be actively involved in several consulting projects in the field of business development and health care strategy.
